Arlington’s Hardy Elementary School Names New Principal
ARLINGTON, MA – The Arlington Public Schools on Wednesday announced the new principal of Hardy Elementary School. Katherine S. Peretz, who currently serves as principal of Oak Street Elementary School in Franklin, will assume her responsibilities July 1.
“Kate Peretz is a highly capable leader who has the skills, focus, and experience to support the Hardy School community through this leadership transition and into its strong future,” Superintendent Kathleen Bodie said in a statement. “Arlington Public Schools is attracting outstanding applicants to join our leadership team. I thank the members of the search committee for their discerning role in this process. All four finalists will be strong contributors to their school communities for years to come.”
Peretz joined the Franklin Public Schools in 2014 as assistant principal of Helen Keller Elementary School and was named principal of Oak Street Elementary two years later. From 1997-2014 she was a classroom teacher for fifth and sixth grade at the McCarthy-Towne Elementary School in Acton. She also served as the coordinator of the Beginning Teacher Support Program for the Acton-Boxborough Regional Schools from 2008-2014.
Peretz received her BA in Communications from Fordham University and her Master of Education from Framingham State University. She is a former National Board Certified Teacher and is currently enrolled in a graduate certificate program at William James College focused on a positive school culture and climate. She also was a member of the initial cohort of the Teacher Leadership Initiative, a program created by the National Education Association, the Center for Teaching Quality and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
